New Year’s Resolutions from the Surpass Team. What are yours?

2021 notepad

Improving the assessment experience for everyone in 2021.

“A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to continue good practices, change an undesired trait or behavior, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their life at the start of a new year.” – Wikipedia

As we embark on a brand new year, we asked some of the Surpass Team to tell us their goals and visions for Surpass and assessment in 2021. Read on to discover some New Year’s resolutions from the Surpass team. We’d love to hear yours too! Contact us at marketing@btl.com and tell us what your assessment goals for 2021 are.

Andy Varley

“2020 demonstrated the positive potential of e-assessment, but also exposed some of the gaps in the equality of the assessment experience. My resolution is to help people understand that this universal design is only travelling in one direction, and I want to help people champion this and change practice for the better in 2021.”

Andy Varley, Accessibility Team Lead

“My resolution for 2021 is to re-ignite the discussion on technology in assessment for schools, and I plan to do this by talking about innovation in formative assessment at the Westminster Education Forum on 3rd March.”

“Test delivery faced a turning point in 2020. As a community, we came together in new and inspiring ways to ensure safe testing was possible whilst maintaining exam integrity. In 2021, my goal is to continue to keep the tests flowing through our amazing global network whilst keeping candidates and team members safe.”

Sue Palmer, Test Delivery Manager

“The Surpass Product Management Team had the honour of being recognised with a prestigious award in 2020 as a result of some exciting new innovations. I want us to confirm this position by showing the community that the evolution of technology-enhanced test creation has only just begun; our Test Creation 2.0 will unlock a new chapter in our mission to improve the assessment experience for everyone.”

“Last year I was lucky enough to lead a research project into the usage and behaviour of Surpass with our wonderful community. This year, I want to make it my personal goal to build further on that research and help the team translate it into meaningful and useful knowledge that will help us refine the user experience of the features we are adding to Surpass.”

Kathryn Owens, UX Researcher

“We have always been proud of the support we give to our customers, but we know there are always opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the support we provide. My 2021 resolution is to ensure that our new ticketing system continues to improve the service and support we provide to our valuable community.”

“We pride ourselves on working with the best partners in the assessment community to provide an extensive range of connected technology and services. 2020 demonstrated that online proctoring can meet the needs of remotely delivered assessments either as a sole channel or as part of a hybrid model. My goal in 2021 is to forge new partnerships, like the one recently announced with Examity for online proctoring, to better serve our community.”
