Surpass Assessment is the first end-to-end assessment platform to achieve ISO/IEC 42001 certification for responsible AI management

Certification reinforces Surpass’ commitment to ethical AI, transparency, security and continuous innovation in assessment technology

Surpass Assessment has successfully achieved certification as an AI provider in a groundbreaking new ISO standard, ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS).

Surpass is one of the first in the assessment industry to attain this new and rigorous certification accreditation to date, and one of only a few hundred organisations globally to achieve this.

The certification validates that Surpass has implemented a comprehensive framework for the responsible provision and governance of AI technologies across its service offerings. ISO/IEC 42001 is awarded following an independent third-party audit confirming that an organisation has established effective controls, risk management practices, and oversight processes for AI systems.

As organisations across education, certification, and workforce development increasingly adopt AI-enabled technologies, the certification underscores Surpass’ commitment to ensuring innovation is guided by transparency, accountability and trust.

AI is transforming the future of assessment, but with innovation comes responsibility. Achieving ISO/IEC 42001 certification reflects our commitment to providing AI-enabled services in ways that are ethical, transparent, secure, and most importantly, aligned with the trust our customers place in us every day. We believe responsible AI governance is foundational to advancing human potential through assessment, and we’d like to thank our Surpass Community AI Advisory Board for their diligent guidance.

Andy McAnulla, Surpass Co-CEO

ISO/IEC 42001 certification confirms that Surpass has established structured policies, processes, and controls to responsibly manage AI systems and associated risks, including bias, misinformation, safety and data integrity concerns.

Key outcomes of the certification include:

  • Responsible AI governance – Formalised policies and oversight for the provision, operation, and governance of AI capabilities within services.
  • Risk identification and mitigation – Proactive evaluation and management of AI-related risks, including fairness, transparency, and reliability.
  • Independent third-party validation – External verification that Surpass’ AI management practices meet internationally recognised standards.
  • Continuous improvement – Ongoing monitoring, review, and enhancement of AI governance and operational practices.

For Surpass customers and partners, the certification provides additional assurance that AI capabilities are designed and managed within a rigorous framework that supports trust, compliance, and long-term accountability. It also reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and governance as AI technologies evolve.
