By 11 July 2024July 16th, 2024Pre-Release Webinar

See Amy McAlpine and her team demonstrate and discuss new features and updates coming to the Surpass Platform in the 24.2 release.

All Surpass users can now use Surpass Copilot to generate Multiple Choice distractor answer options. Just enable Surpass Copilot at subject-level in the Subjects screen in Setup to begin using Copilot.

Key features

Item Authoring

  • A new Language Variant option in Bulk Update lets you add multiple language variants to selected items or items specified via CSV.
  • When using Bulk Update, comments and unit conversions can now be updated via CSV.
  • A new Windowed media display option lets you configure MP3 audio media files to open in a window. If Windowed is enabled, you can also set your media to continuously play (and be unable to be closed) until either the media file or the test is finished.

Test Driver

  • Improved security, as entering an incorrect keycode or PIN entry five times in SecureClient now incurs a 30-second time-out.
  • Tests containing Audio Capture questions will now only be available in supported browsers.

Tasks

  • Lead assignees now have the ability to expand their view of items when working in Comparison View in Individual Review tasks.
  • In the ‘Create New Items’ task, you now have the option to create a list of all the items created in the task automatically.

Test Wizard

  • BYOD Mode can now be enabled for tests created or edited using the Test Wizard, which is used to let candidates take tests at a test centre on their personal machines.

What is the purpose of the Tasks section in Surpass?

The Tasks section in Surpass is where you can create, manage, and complete assignments. It is a workflow management tool built right into the Surpass Platform.

What are the different Task types available in Surpass?

There are four different Task types available in Surpass: Authoring, Review, Standard Setting, and General.

What are the responsibilities of Task Managers?

Task Managers create, edit, and finalize tasks. They also decide which assignees work on a task, who the lead assignees are, and can monitor the progress of tasks.

How can tasks be used to track the progress of assignees?

Using tasks in Surpass means you can track the progress of assignees without having to ask about where they are using the donut charts. On the Tasks screen, you can see updates on how many tasks have been completed, as well as a countdown to the expiry date.

How is the ‘create new items’ authoring task different from the ‘edit existing items’ task?

The ‘create new items’ authoring task is different from the ‘edit existing items’ task as it requires less setup. It also has the option of giving more freedom in the type of item created, but it can still restrict the items created. The task type has been available since the beginning of the year and is continually being updated.

What is a standard setting Task in Surpass?

A standard setting Task in Surpass allows you to review an item list and apply standard setting ratings to determine a cut score using the Angoff method.
